Raymond Qiu

Raymond is a Masters-qualified Fire Engineer and holds a Bachelor of Civil Engineering with First Class Honours from the University of Auckland. He has multiple years of experience as a Regulatory Engineer at Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ), a period during which he was seconded to Beca as a Design Engineer. Raymond joined Crossfire in January 2021.

From his Regulatory Engineering background, Raymond holds extensive knowledge on local legislation and the application of the Building Code. He has provided Fire Engineering advice to Building Consent Authorities (BCAs), operational firefighting staff, and was the FENZ engineering representative for numerous complex projects across New Zealand. Raymond also analysed the consequences of real fire scenarios and achieved a practical understanding of human behaviour and the operation of fire safety systems. During his time at Beca, Raymond was able to transition the skills he gained as a Regulatory Engineer and apply them successfully to projects across numerous sectors as a Design Engineer.

Raymond possesses a skill set in the field of Structural Fire Engineering advanced through research at the University of Canterbury. It was during the publication of his Masters’ thesis where he learned to work with complex finite element models to assess the non-linear behaviour of steel and concrete composite structures in fire.

Outside of work, you may find him lifting weights at the gym, exercising his huskies, or rocking out on the drums.
